Trauma & Addiction
Numerous research studies confirm the link between traumatic experiences in childhood and addictive behaviors in adulthood. Most notable is the original study of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). ACEs include traumatic experiences such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, neglect, loss of a parent, witnessing intimate partner violence, and living with a family member with a mental illness. As the number of ACEs increase, the risk of alcohol and other drug use disorders also increase.

About Me
In my clinic, i draw upon extensive experience and a wealth of practical knowledge developed over many years of multiple levels of practice. These include local outreach programs in urban Dublin, addiction specific counselling in Cloverhill Prison, 2 years lecturing and supervising counselling & psychotherapy students at ICCPD & PCI, in addition to 5 years in private practice.
I collaborate with clients to co-create and prepare for healthier futures by extracting learnings from lived experiences. Such an exploration can often lead to transformative experiences which result in a lifting of symptoms within the first month and long term improvements thereafter.
I am an IACP accredited psychotherapist, trained in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), humanistic-person-centred, systemic-family systems and psychodynamic approaches. I hold a masters degree in psychotherapy from Dublin City University-2023 (DCU) & an honours social science degree from University College Dublin-2018 (UCD). Further certification includes: Children's first, Group facilitation (psychotherapy), Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA), Substance Use Counselling, Non-violent resistance therapy (NVR), Key working, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).
